VAN DIEMEN'S LAND

I saw this movie today based on a true story of convict Alexander Pearce
it was a great film, very brutal, but the acting was amazing. What I didn't understand was the homosexual relationship between two of the other main characters? Not sure if that was just artistic license of the director?
Also the amazing wide shots of the Tasmanian old growth forests made me wonder how could people log these forests? It is world heritage! The Wilderness Society is a great group to support! They are campaigning a lot for the Tasmanian old growth forests.
